Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers love their key fob's convenient remote that comes with features. They can lock and unlock their car or start the motor and even locate it via an app on their smartphone.
Place the fob's front up on an uncluttered surface. Find the button to release it. Place a coin between the cover of the fob and the fob, then gently pull it up.
Locking the Door
Volvo's remote keyfobs allow you to unlock your vehicle's tailgate, doors and fuel filler flap with the push of a button. You might not be aware of some key fob features that are not visible. One of these features is an unlocked/lock button that can be pressed in the event the battery on your key fob goes out.
To press the manual lock/unlock switch, hold your key fob with the Volvo logo side up. Find the black button on the edge of your key fob, and gently press it. This will open a protective cover that hides the key blade that is manual. The cover can be flipped counterclockwise by using a flathead or coin.
Beginning the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs provide the convenience and functionality unmatched by traditional manual keys. But, just like any other battery-powered electronic device key fobs can be depleted of its charge or cease functioning over time. If you've noticed that your key fob has become less responsive to pressing the lock or unlock buttons, it's an indication that it's in need of a replacement battery.
If your car is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start accessory, you can also utilize the key fob to activate this feature. The car will be heated or cooled at the same temperature it was set to when it was parked and it can run for up to 15 minutes.
Using a fingernail, carefully remove the cover from the back of the key fob. The button should be under the cover at an angle, close to the edge of the body. Take it off by sliding it downwards and then to the right. The cover will fall off and slide off to reveal the manual blade! If you're still having trouble finding the button, you can search the newly revealed manual key access to determine whether there's a hidden slot or lever.
Closing the Windows
One of the lesser-known features that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is that you can lower all windows at once by using them. This is a great feature when trying to squeeze into a cramped parking spot, or even just to get fresh air in the cabin while driving.
To unlock your Volvo do this, press and hold down the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower all the windows, and the sunroof, if your car has one. After that, once you're done with the car you can shut the doors by pressing the lock button a second time for four seconds.
You can also use the key fob to trigger your car's panic alarm. This will emit an intense, enthralling roar that can scare off thieves and help you get home safely after a long night out. This feature is helpful if you are living in a dangerous neighborhood or you want to safeguard your family members while they are away.
Opening the Tailgate
Volvo has packed its key fobs with many useful features. They are great if you're overwhelmed with shopping or helping your kids pack their sports gear after a workout.
For example, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped) You can open it using the key fob. Simply press the button open it, then use the same button to close it when you're done.
When you're ready to get your car started, use the key fob to press the START button (and do not worry about your battery failing or your car not starting since it comes with a backup mechanical key slot too). This is among the many tips that will benefit your brand new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs provide a great deal of convenience over a traditional mechanical car key. They aren't always working perfectly and the batteries may go out. You can try programming your key fob at home in case you are in a hurry or don't have time go to the store.
Lay out your keys along with batteries and any other keys on a clean surface. Find the small black button at the bottom left corner of the key fob, and move it to the right. The cover should fall off and expose the key blade's mechanical structure underneath.
The button for unlocking the key fob two times quickly, and you should be able opening all the doors, as well as the tailgate. The lock button also shuts the windows and sunroof (if fitted) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, the owner's manual should contain a procedure to reset the system.
